I’m excited to be leading a narrative poetry workshop at the Florida State Poets Association‘s spring convention in Orlando on May 18. I’ll share some of my top poetry tips and read a few of my poems, too.
The group was kind enough to feature me (and my photos) in an article in their recent newsletter.
Is there a better way to start a weekend than this? I can’t think of any.
I’ll join my pal Susan Lilley, Orlando’s poet laureate, for my first time on the Timucua White House stage for “Susan Lilley and Friends” on Sunday, Oct. 7. Other poets who will read are Laura Sobbott Ross, Ashley Inguanta, Amy Watkins, Terry Ann Thaxton, Cecilia Milanes and Obi Nwakanma.
Please bring food or wine to share.
The Timucua concert hall is at 2000 S. Summerlin Ave., Orlando.
Sunday, Oct. 7, 7:30 to 9 p.m.
I’ll be reading my poetry during the Winter Park Paint Out at the Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens on Friday, April 27. I’ll read with good pal Susan Lilley, who is Orlando’s first poet laureate, and other talented writers.
Artist Thomas Thorspecken will sketch throughout the event, with his work projected onto a large screen so everyone can watch.
The happy hour event, from 5 to 8 p.m., will include a cash wine/beer bar and appetizers.
During the Paint Out (April 22-28), 25 acclaimed plein air artists will roam Winter Park capturing landscapes and landmarks in oils, watercolor and pastels.
Visit the website of the museum at 633 Osceola Ave. or call 407-647-6294 for more information.
I’m pleased to share that I won an award last week in the Orange Audubon Society’s annual photo contest for this shot of a small burrowing owl.
The owl is striking for its unusual brown eyes resulting from a recessive gene. The photo was taken in Cape Coral, FL.
